Former Fort Worth resident indicted in stem-cell treatments | Health | Dallas-Fort Worth Life...: A former Fort Worth resident who ran a scientific "foundation" out of a shipping service on Lake Worth Boulevard is among a group recently indicted on federal charges of selling unapproved stem-cell treatments to sufferers of Lou Gehrig's disease, muscular dystrophy and cancer.

Larry Stowe and Dr. Francisco Morales, a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen living in Brownsville, is accused of collecting $1.5 million by promising cures to desperate cancer and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's) patients, one indictment says.

Stowe, a former employee of Mobil Oil who holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, was the subject of a CBS-TV 60 Minutes exposé in 2010. Before then, he operated out of Fort Worth.

The cases are reaching federal court in Houston just as the Texas Medical Board is reviewing changes for rules governing stem-cell research.
